What we look for

Berk’s most sought-after paintings feature highly saturated color and multiple layers of thick paint: Bay Area and Central Valley landscapes, beach and figure scenes, interiors and large floral still lifes from c. 1959–1970. Works signed “H. Berk” or “Berk” on canvas or board, any size.

Before you send photos

Photograph the whole front of the painting square-on in even daylight, then the entire back, including the stretcher or board and any labels, stamps or writing. Add a close-up of the signature; Berk often signed “H. Berk.” Measure the canvas or board itself, not the frame, and tell us whether it is framed.

Anything you know about the painting’s history helps: whether it came from the artist or her family, a gallery receipt, an exhibition label, or a note of when and where it was bought. Please don’t clean the surface or remove old labels. Berk’s thick impasto can be fragile, and labels help document a work.
